SUMMARY OF RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
Since its formation in 1991, research in the CIC has been conducted in three main areas: Science, Impacts and Policy. Atmospheric Science research is the foundation for both the impacts and policy programs and is crucial in its own right as the link between CIC and agencies in Australia and overseas mandated to undertake research into climate change, in particular that resulting from the human-induced enhanced greenhouse effect. The Impacts Research has focused on investigating the social and environmental impacts of both contemporary and predicted future climate changes and also on developing better methods of social impact assessment. Policy research is based on the scientific and impacts research and has focused on implications of public and private sector commitments arising from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the Framework Convention on Climate Change. Our activity has included input into the International Geosphere Biosphere Programme and the Third Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
